Sweet doing nothing

Our Territory

When asking us why to choose Cascina Fogona farm as the destination of your holidays we always present our territory and, above all, its position. You can range from the sea to the mountain, you can relax in a “sweet do nothing” or you can invigorate yourself with sports and adrenaline fuelled activities.

The farmhouse is isolated and situated on a ridge, where the Apennines and Alps meet; on the one hand, you can see the sea and the other the Alps with the Monviso!

In twenty minutes you can reach the beautiful beaches of Bergeggi, in half an hour you can taste the Barolo in its production area and in less than an hour’s drive you can reach the Maritime Alps and on the opposite side Genoa.

Starting from the farmhouse, you can go on daily excursions to the Cinque Terre and towards Ventimiglia and France, between Liguria and Lower Piedmont.

HOW TO GET

The farmhouse is only 7 minutes from the Altare motorway exit (A6-Torino-Savona), and can be easily reached by a paved road (less than 1km) that climbs the hill, surrounded by the woods.
There are ample parking spaces. The Altare Station can be reached in 20 minutes on foot, as well as the town centre, where there are all the essential stores, various bars and the museum and glass artisans.
Altare is connected to Savona by a bus service. The main airports are Genoa (45 minutes), Turin (1h30), Nice (2h15).

Cascina Fogona can be easily reached by car, but the best way to reach it is on foot or by mountain bike. We suggest some possibilities.

THE NORMAL

As in mountaineering, it is the easiest and most intuitive route, which can be travelled both on foot and by MTB. From the center of the town, take the national road that leads to the hamlet of Montenotte, after leaving the town, take a wide dirt road on the right, immediately downhill, but which subsequently climbs regularly. After passing the house with three friendly dogs on the left, at the crossroads you have to turn left. If you look up, you can already see Cascina Fogona.

From the Glass Museum: 2.2 km, difference in altitude about 100mt.

INDUSTRIAL
The territory of Valbormida has a history linked to the industrialization of the last century, and by choosing this itinerary, you will be able, along the way, to see some artifacts completely inserted in nature. It starts from the village of Ferrania, known internationally for having hosted the 3M factory (see cinema museum) and follow the signs for the HIGH VIA DEI MONTI LIGURI (AVM), towards Ventimiglia, with the characteristic white and red stamp. You pass under the small wagons, now disused, which carried coal from the sea. Upon arrival at the Cascina, remember us to tell you a story about the wagons! Continuing on the main road, you come to a clearing with a clayey rock formation, where you can see some fossils. At this point, there is a beautiful view of the Maritime Alps and the marine side. At the crossroads, leave the HIGH VIA DEI MONTI LIGURI and continue to the right. At the next crossroads, keep to the right and you can already see Cascina Fogona.

Attention for those who are MTB the first part is a bit steep; you can always get off the bike.

From the abbey of Ferrania: 4.1 km, difference in altitude about 180mt.

LA BUCOLICA
It always starts from Ferrania, from the Prasottano hamlet. On the paved road, cross the small bridge over the Capelletta stream and walk easily on the wide path through the woods. The route is very pleasant and runs along a small river, with water in almost all seasons. Near the ruined farmhouse, take the path on the right, cross the stream and keep the farmhouse on your right. On the right, you can see some ponds, where tadpoles proliferate in the right season. Cover a stretch with the fund that is a bit bumpy, be careful with the bikes, up to a large clearing. At that point, the path makes a small hairpin bend and continues uphill. At the end of the climb you arrive at the crossroads, to the left and to the right you go to the ALTA VIA DEI MONTI LIGURI (AVM), to reach Cascina Fogona it is necessary to take the dirt road in front, at the next crossroads keep to the right and you can already see Cascina Fogona.

From the Abbey of Ferrania: 2.9 km, difference in height about 110 meters.

THE DIRECT

It starts from the center of the village of Altare near the oratory of San Sebastiano, it is the shortest but also the steepest route. For the moment, it is not yet accessible and in the winter of 2022/23 it will be restored thanks to the collaboration with the 3A-Cai Altare association and the Altare White Cross boys who organize the Burot Trail.
